MACGILLIVRAY

Originally from Morvern and Lochaber they sought the protection of Mackintosh in the 13th century and are therefore identified with Clan Chattan. The MacGillivrays settled in Strathnairn in Inverness-shire and their earliest possession appears to have been Dunmaglass, but they did not have a heritable right to Dunmaglass from the Campbells of Cawdor until 1626.

MACGREGOR

Senior Clan of the Clan Alpin, and said to be the descendants of Griogar, third son of Kenneth MacAlpine, King of Scots in the 9th century. At one time they held lands in Perthshire and Argyllshire: Glenstrae, Glenlochy, Glenlyon and Glengyle.They were relieved of these by the powerful Clan Campbell.

MACINNES

Originating from the Dalriads, a family of MacInneses were hereditary bowmen to the Chief of Mackinnon. The name means 'son of Angus' and in the 17th century a chief of the MacInneses was a Keeper of Kinlochaline Castle in Morvern.

MACINTYRE
|
The 'Children of the Carpenter' who came from the Hebrides and settled in Lorn in the 14th century. It is recorded that they had their estate at Glencoe from 1380 until 1810. Before moving to Badenoch, the MacIntyres were listed as followers of the Stewarts of Appin.
